Information, Advice and Guidance and Student Support
The membership of the IAG Group comprises representatives from the LLN partner HEIs, FE colleges, LSC, Aimhigher, Connexions, ‘Nextstep’ networks, employers, the voluntary sector and Unionlearn, as well as large employers and other interested parties. The IAG group aims to:
- support the training and development of the wider community of specialist and informal IAG practitioners across the LLN Network so that they are better able to advise and support vocational and work-based learners to progress into higher level education and training
- initiate projects and activities that will overcome the barriers to progression to higher-level learning that vocational and work-based learners experience
- provide learning and other support to vocational and work-based learners who progress into higher education in order that they are successful
Its immediate priorities include:
- organising development events for admissions staff to improve dialogue between HE Admissions tutors/staff and vocational tutors from colleges and training providers
- mapping the availability of existing IAG progression resources for vocational and work-based learners and, if necessary, commissioning new resources
- (in partnership with Aimhigher) providing a single point of access to relevant LLN IAG resources through the regional Learning Pathways website (ALPS) and work closely with partners to embed their use across the LLN
- exploring the demand for new IAG practitioner curriculum at HE level and if required, developing appropriate provision at partner institutions
- working in partnership with Aimhigher, developing vocational/work-based versions of the HE CARD (Choose a Real Deal) progression programme appropriate to the LLN
- providing learning support for CARD students in their first semester at partner HEIs
-
supporting the training and development of workplace IAG advisors and Union Learning Representatives (ULRs)
