This discipline area was very active for the LLN with a number of key regional employers engaging in the development of new curriculum and discussions around progression agreements.
Employer forums were held regularly to give employers an opportunity to meet with representatives from the Universities, FE Colleges and private training providers to explore ideas for curriculum development that could be supported through the LLN. These were well attended and several proposals have been discussed as a result of these meetings.

There have since been National and regional developments which you may be interested in. Skills for Care in conjunction with FDF tendered for a number of pilots to be developed to support consortia in creating employer-led Foundation degree programmes for the adult social care sector. They will develop a common approach that will give a consistency to the programmes and portability of the qualification across England, recognised by Skills for Care, the Sector Skills council.
The pilots are: Long term conditions, Learning disabilities, Dementia, Sensory Services, Assisted Care, Commissioning.
The West Midlands were successful in two tenders:
- Long term conditions - Staffordshire University
- Learning disabilities - University of Worcester

The Health and Social Care Discipline Group met bi-monthly with representatives from employers and educators and approved the following projects:
Modular (bite size) Mental Health Award at HE levels 4, 5 and 6 have been approved and delivered for service sector workers including the police, teachers, probation officers, youth workers, adult nurses, unqualified health and social care staff
BA (Hons) in Social Work Part-time Progression Route – providing an opportunity for people who want to qualify as social workers but for a variety e.g. caring or commitments could not undertake a full time degree programme
