Cross Cutting Themes
Leadership and Management, IT and Enterprise sit in the cross cutting themes area as they impact upon and interact with the functioning of all the other discipline groups. The aim is to make the programmes we offer more suitable to the needs of employers and work based learners alike. We know that people come to education or return to it from a wide range of backgrounds and experiences. The aim is to ensure people have the opportunity to maximise their potential, at whatever level, and also have a clear route to progress should they choose to so.
We have created clear ladders of progression for people returning to education and also to ensure that they don't hit a brick wall part way through the process. This means helping people back on to the ladder, demonstrating that their years of work experience can count for something and that they can achieve improved levels of skills and qualifications to help them progress in their career choices.
These choices might be flexible, work-based modules delivered in a non traditional way. As flexibility of learning is a key to pathways through education, the CCT group is working collaboratively with the network's Colleges and Universities to develop Foundation degrees, postgraduate awards and CPD which will carry credit or mutual recognition between Universities, in the hope of avoiding brick walls to education if you move job or location. Much of this group's early work focused on the needs of two employers within the region: the health sector and local authorities. However, by developing a series of core leadership and management modules which we believe can provide basic underpinning knowledge contextualised to the sector, we have set the foundation for a wide range of awards in other areas, such as Sales Management and Logistics.
